Nairn Finance Office

Highland Council officers are moving out of the Nairn Finance Office into the former Provost room in Nairn Courthouse in early November. This will leave the office surplus to requirements and so the council intends to dispose of it.

This building, 4 and 6 Courthouse Lane, and often know locally as the “Italianate building”, is in the central park. It is grade B listed and it does need some work done on it, which will complicate matters for whoever takes it on next.

The council has two options: it can dispose of it on the open market or it can transfer it to a local organisation by way of a Community Asset Transfer. If you think an organisation you’re involved with may be interested in acquiring it via that route then you can find out more about that process here.

Oh, and yes, there was some investigation as to whether Nairn Library could move there but it wasn’t a suitable building for that use.

In other news

• The bridge on the A939 at Dava is now expected to be closed for another ten weeks.

• NICE have two job vacancies, both part time for five months, to work on the Local Place Plan.

• Despite what I posted last week I’m told that Burnside is an adopted highway, the council’s web site just needs updating, so that finally puts that one to bed.

• The Highland Council is in the process of developing a Playpark Strategy for its 321 play park scattered across the Highlands and would love children to be at the heart of the conversation. You can read more about that here and there’s a survey for you to fill in.

• Nairn Baptist Church have asked me to let you know about Wellbeing 23:3, a place where it is OK to not be OK, which runs at the United Reform Church every Monday from 1:30-3:30pm providing a simple cafe style space where hobbies and activities are shared.
