Two years
This week marks the start of my third year representing you on Highland Council.
A year ago I wrote a post on my personal blog about being a councillor and in truth nothing of great import has changed for me in general except perhaps that more people now know me by sight so, for example, this morning’s trip to Sainsburys was punctuated by three conversations with residents who approached me about various council related issues.
We’ve also had some victories for the ward in the past year, most notably over Nairn East and the Inner Moray Firth Local Development Plan, although danger still lurks there … and at a council level the ruling SNP/Independent group is moving forward in a positive way with the Highland Investment Plan in particular, which we approved last Thursday, being a big step forward after years of dithering by previous councils.
But in truth the victories I get most pleasure from are for individual residents who come to me with issues which I can help resolve and I will continue to do that.
Marine Road
Talking of residents’ issues I have now had a lot of emails from residents complaining that the double yellow lines were not re-painted after the road was surface dressed back in the autumn. I have chased officers on this. Repeatedly. Your other ward councillors have too.
We discussed this informally on Monday after our Area Committee meeting and Cllr Fraser is now chasing officers again and is going to ask for cones to be put in place again if the lines can’t be re-painted soon.
Nairnshire Area Committee
Area Committee met on Monday and you can watch it online if you’re so inclined. We had reports on management of council housing and also on the five schools in the ward.
Closure of U3049 and C1157 at Moyness
These roads, marked in red and orange on the map below, will be closed from next Monday, 20th May for works by BT. A diversion via the A96 will be in place.
