Water leak on path beside R&R Urquhart
Several people have contacted me and also the council service point about the water leak coming up in the path beside R&R Urquhart which leads from the High Street in Nairn through to the central car park and the big Co-Op. Water from the leak is flowing down onto the pavement in the High Street.
I have been investigating this and the situation is complicated to say the least as the pipe that’s leaking is not owned by Scottish Water and the leak is not coming up on council owned or adopted land, despite it apparently being a public path.
I don’t want to go into too many details here but having spoken to several of the parties involved I’ve now asked Scottish Water to re-visit the site and see if they can bring things to a satisfactory solution.
Contents of Viewfield Stables in Nairn
I think I should pass on this notice about the stables in its entirety as it may affect you or an organisation you’re involved with:
The Nairn Common Good Fund – for the purpose of investigating and carrying out property repairs – will shortly begin undertaking a clear-out of the entire contents of the Viewfield Stables in Nairn.
The Common Good Fund is aware that this property has had many uses throughout the last number of years and has increasingly become a general storage area for the Council itself, local businesses and community groups. An inventory of items was recently undertaken to help determine ownership, but little of value was noted.
Individuals, businesses and local groups who have previously made use of the Viewfield Stables – and believe items belonging to them may still be stored within the property – are invited to claim these before 24th May 2024. Ownership will need to be established initially by contacting the Nairn Common Good Officer by e-mail, with mutually suitable arrangements then being made for collection. In the first instance, please contact: common.good@highland.gov.uk
After 24th May 2024, in order to allow repair works to proceed, any remaining and unclaimed contents will be disposed of responsibly. Local charities seeking to make use of any items recovered will be offered that opportunity and the process of emptying the contents will be subject to oversight by the Common Good Officer.
If you can’t place the stables they’re located behind the bus station flats and can be seen on your left as you come into Viewfield from King Street. Here’s a photo from Google Streetview.
Ward Discretionary Fund
I’ve mentioned this here before but as we’re now into a new financial year and the balance in the fund resets a reminder that each ward, including ours, has a small ward discretionary fund of £14,400 to which community groups or organisations can apply for grants.
You can find more details here but the key thing to remember is that this is for one off items, not ongoing funding, and with only a limited amount of money to play with smaller applications are more likely to succeed in full.
