As I’m sure you’re aware by now if you stay in Nairn much of the town is currently without mains water and has been since early this morning and reports I’ve been getting suggest that the majority of homes in the town are still affected.
All three of Nairn’s schools are closed as a result.
The status page for the incident is here which they are updating as things continue to evolve.
A press release from Scottish Water which I was sent a few minutes ago said:
Following a burst water main which occurred near Howford Road in Nairn in the early hours of this morning [Monday], Scottish Water engineers have been working to restore supplies and carry out repairs.
The affected water main supplies the centre of the town and had potential to affect water supplies for around 4,000 customers. By around 9am engineers were able to re-route water through unaffected parts of the town’s water network in order to restore supplies to the majority of affected customers. A team is on site near Howford Road to excavate the damaged water main and carry out a repair.
A spokesperson for Scottish Water said:
“We would like to apologies to customers in Nairn for the disruption to normal water supplies this morning.
“Our first priority is to restore normal service as quickly as possible. The work we have carried out this morning should restore supply via the local water network to most of the homes and businesses initially affected.
“We are making progress with excavating the damaged water main at Howford Road, so that we can return the network to normal operation and restore normal service for everyone – and currently estimate that repairs will be complete by late afternoon.”
I hope not to need to post about this here again but I am posting updates on Mastodon and also against this post on Facebook as I hear them.
