It’s been a year
Another councillor pointed out to me that yesterday it was a year since we were elected to Highland Council. It’s an anniversary about which I confess I have mixed feelings as while the votes were counted and the results declared I was in Hampshire speaking the eulogy at my mother’s funeral.
So she never got to hear my news, but I hope she would have been proud of me.
I’ve written a summary of my year over on my personal blog although nothing in there will come as a big surprise to regular readers of this blog.
Economy & Infrastructure Committee
Although I’m not a member of this committee I attended their meeting on Thursday and spoke about Nairn BID’s renewal of which I spoke strongly in favour, on the Community Regeneration Programme where I talked up the idea of a Local Area Plan for Nairn and welcomed Highland Council’s support for this, and the Roads Strategic Capital Allocation where I compared the state of our roads to those of the north and west coast and Skye (ours are a lot better).
The meeting is available online if you want to watch it, although my contributions are pretty brief.
I also had a South Planning Applications Committee meeting this week but it only had three applications to consider and none where anywhere near our ward.
Next week is busier though with Licensing Committee and Board (of which I’m chairing the latter), a Ward Business Meeting on Wednesday, and Full Council on Thursday as we go on into year two.
