Year 2, Week 27
Dava bridge, Howford bridge, Local Access Forum, Community Briefing mailing list ...
This week’s blog post comes to you a day late. My apologies for that but it does give me a chance to congratulate Nairn County in their 5-4 victory over Ross County in the final of the North of Scotland Cup!
Dava bridge on the A939
The council has now awarded the contract for the repairs to the road bridge on the A938 at Dava. The aim is that this will be completed before Christmas but it may be delayed if we get too much cold weather …
I have been liaising with council staff to ensure increased gritting on the B9007 Ferness to Carrbridge road while the A939 closure continues and I’ve also asked them to review the diversion signage as I’m getting reports that it’s not adequate.
B9090 Howford Bridge improvements
In happier bridge news the work on the B9090 which takes the Cawdor Road in Nairn out towards Cawdor has now been completed.
The southern approach to the bridge has been widened with associated embankment, retaining wall and ancillary works. The project is a continuation of improvements on the B9090 to reduce the impacts of timber transportation.
Want to be on a Local Access Forum?
The Council is looking for new members to fill vacancies on its six local outdoor access forums including the one for Inverness & Nairn. There are currently at least two vacancies on each group.
The forums are set up to advise the Council on matters relating to outdoor public access and are a part of the Council’s duty under the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003. The forums play a particularly key role in resolving some access disputes and in Core Path Planning. There are usually two meetings per year and occasional other site visits or correspondence over a five year term.
If you are interested you can find more details here.
Community Briefing mailing list
The Council sends out a fortnightly briefing containing information about support, resources, and events for local communities and this week they are moving to a new mailing list which will be made up of emails that have opted in to receive the briefing. You can opt by using this very short survey.
