Full Council
The Council met on Thursday. All the papers are here and, if you’re so inclined you can watch it on YouTube or, if you want to skip to specific items, it is also available as a webcast here.
It was a long and tiring day and we covered a lot of ground.
We spent most of the morning on two planning applications for fish farms off Skye which had been refused by the North Planning Application Committee in August but were subject to a Notice of Amendment (Planning) to make full council reconsider them. So we did that and we refused one but not the other, which was odd given that the applications were so similar.
The rest of the day was largely taken up with consideration of various reports where my summary would largely be that the council is doing OK on the whole. There’s still work to do, when is there ever not, but we are making progress.
There were some contentious items however. On Academy Street in Inverness the council decided to stop the implementation of a Traffic Regulation Order and bring the project to improve the street to an end with all Covid interventions being removed. There is a long and sorry back story to this which, if it interests you, I’m sure you’ll know about already so I won’t dwell on here.
We also agreed to write to Police Scotland about a decision to remove public telephones from outside police stations across the country and to both the Holyrood and Westminster governments about the withdrawal of the Pension Age Winter Heating Payment.
By this time it was 7pm so the meeting was adjourned and we didn’t complete all the business. In particular we have four motions remaining to be discussed so we will assemble again at 2pm on Monday, 30th September to complete our business.
Road closure
The U2297 near Drumduan Mill, east of Nairn, shown in purple on the map below has an emergency road closure in place for public safety reasons due to damage to the Auldearn Burn bridge.
Further updates as to the duration of the closure will follow once the damage is assessed but there are sensible short diversions around the closure.
Planning applications
It has been pointed out to me that I have not been posting planning applications relating to Ardersier Port as it’s not in our ward however they may be on interest to residents of the ward so I will be posting relevant ones here in future.
With that in mind I note one which I missed in June:
24/02030/S42 - Former Fabrication Yard Ardersier - Application under Section 42 for non-compliance with Condition 10 (i) of Planning Permission 18/04552/PIP requiring the upgrade of the site access road junction with the A96 Trunk Road
The following new applications were logged since I last posted:
24/03718/FUL - 34 Lochloy Avenue, Nairn, IV12 5AW - Erection of extension
24/03744/FUL - Beach View, Links Place, Nairn, IV12 4NH - Erection of porch
