Brae pedestrianisation
As I’ve mentioned here before Nairn BID have proposals to pedestrianise, to a greater or lesser extent, the Brae (the short section of road from the A96 Harbour Street junction up to the high street). They now have £40,000 of funding in place to undertake a study to see how this could be done.
As part of this they are holding a public consultation tomorrow, Monday, 27th November from 6:30pm to 9pm, at the Community and Arts Centre on Kings Street. If you’re on Facebook they also have a Facebook group Nairn, The Brae Active Travel Route where you can share your views with the team.
Delnies
You may remember that six weeks ago I made a long post about proposed development at Delnies, west of Nairn (and, if you didn’t read it, I strongly suggest starting there).
Another planning application, 23/05237/MSC, has now been submitted which takes things to the next level. This application goes into a lot of detail about the house types being proposed and the arrangements for water mains and for drains, both sweet and sour.
It also details their plans for the new roundabout on the A96, various issues with archaeology, and how they propose to set up a Community Liaison Group including representatives from Cawdor and Nairn West, Nairn West and Suburban, and Nairn River Community Councils.
As before I should note that in planning matters, if a councillor makes comment to either support or object to a proposal before it comes to committee, then such comments would rule them out of participating in any vote, as applications are supposed to be judged on their merits given the full presentation at the relevant committee hearing so I’m not able to comment on this application myself beyond describing it, as I hope I’ve done above but if you want to comment, you should do so, either via the web site or by emailing eplanning@highland.gov.uk
Disabled beach access
Three of your ward councillors and representatives from the Nairn Access Panel met with council officers for a site meeting on a particularly damp and windy Monday morning this week to discuss the new beach access to Central Beach which a lot of people were not happy about from the start and which has not coped at all well with the bad weather we had some weeks ago.
There was further discussion by email after the meeting and plans are now being put in place both to remedy the faults in the current design and also to complete the second phase.
