About me

I’m your SNP councillor for the Nairn & Cawdor ward on Highland Council. You can read a little bit about me here in my first ever blog post back in 2022 and also, in my second, why I thought I could be as good councillor for the ward. It seems quite a lot of you thought so too as I was elected in May 2022 with the most votes of any candidate.

As well as representing the ward I sit on various committees concerned with issues all around Highland, which you can find listed here, and as of summer 2025 I chair the council’s Corporate Resources Committee.

This is one of the six strategic committees on Highland Council and covers everything on the bottom left side of the management chart above. As a result I am now part of the Senior Leadership Group - the equivalent of the Cabinet in Westminster terms.

I also chair the South Planning Applications Committee and the Pensions Committee and I sit on a range of sub-committees, many of which I also chair.

About this blog

One of the things that struck me even before I thought about standing for election was that our previous local councillors didn’t tell us what they were up to. So this blog exists because I promised as part of my election campaign to keep residents of the ward informed as to what was going on at Highland Council. I’ve done that with posts pretty much every week since I was elected.
